When I was a kid growing up, we had a pine bush in our front yard. Yes, you read it right. A pine bush. I guess it had once been a pine tree, but had somehow lost its top and began growing out instead of up...resulting in more of a pine bush, rather than a pine tree. And the result was wonderful. Lots of low horizontal branches for sitting and soft pine needles for lounging. It was the perfect hideout.
I have the same feelings about my new little sewing room. All the cool kids are calling their sewing spaces studios, so I guess I can too. But really, I feel the term "hideout" might be more appropriate. The perfect place to hide out from a house full of testosterone oozing men. A place to let my mind wander. A place to feel creative again. And of course, a space to house my ever growing vintage apron collection. I am feeling a bit spoiled with such a place all to myself.
The decor is a bit Punky Brewster-ish with furniture and accessories being pulled from what was left after putting the other rooms of the house together. A futon that doe not fit anywhere else is the perfect place to sit while checking email with my cup of coffee in the morning. The $3 rocking chair that I used to rock the twins to sleep is the chair in front of my sewing machine. The rugs and pillows do not match in the slightest, but I like them and just can't bring myself to sell them. So they get to live in this space too. If I move the coffee pot in, I swear I could live in this room. Espeically if I had a rainbow painted flower cart bed like Punky did. I love it all so much.
Of course, I have other things I want to hang on the wall above the couch and the shelves need a bit more arranging, but it is together enough for me for now. The perfect place to start on the many handmade gifts I am dreaming up for the holidays.
And many apologies to my men, but NO BOYS ALLOWED! However, crafty mamas are always welcome. The coffee is in the kitchen. Go pour yourself a cup ladies and lets play, shall we?
